We are pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Gia Klauss, DVM, Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists. She provides state-of-the-art ophthalmic care for pets. Routine appointments and emergency evaluations are available every week, Wednesday through Friday. Emergency services and ophthalmology consultations are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Overnight hospitalization is always available at CRVS where our Emergency and Critical Care team is fully staffed at all times in order to deliver the best possible care.
Services provided by Dr. Klauss:
-Diagnosis and medical and/or surgical treatment of all eye conditions in dogs, cats,
and exotic animals
-Slit lamp biomicroscopy and direct and indirect ophthalmoscopy for
ophthalmic examination
-Tonopen tonometry for intraocular pressure measurement and diagnosis
of glaucoma
-Electoretinography to evaluate retinal function
-Ocular and orbital ultrasonography
-Streak retinoscopy for determination of refractive error
-Phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implants for treatment of cataracts
-Corneal transplantation surgery
-Shunt implants for treatment of glaucoma
-Cryosurgery for treatment of eyelid and ocular tumors and eyelash abnormalities
-Eye certification exams (Canine Eye Registry Foundation, or CERF)

Congratulations to Dr. Travis Lanaux, DVM,DACVECC, our ‘newly minted’ Veterinary Criticalist!
This fantastic accomplishment! We are thrilled to have Dr. Lanaux on staff at CRVS. He is a wonderful addition to our Emergency and Critical Care Team. We now have 2 board certified Criticalists at CRVS -- more than any other hospital in the Vancouver/Portland area. If your pet needs Critical Care, CRVS is the place to be!
CRVS incorporates new minimally invasive procedure.

Columbia River Veterinary Specialists incorporates new minimally invasive procedure, laser lithotripsy. We are the only hospital in the Pacific Northwest to offer this service.
Laser Lithotripsy is a procedure in which laser energy is used to break large cystic and urethral calculi into smaller pieces that can then be removed from the bladder or urethra using a stone basket or voiding urohydropulsion. Laser lithotripsy is considered the standard of care for the treatment of urolithiasis in human urology, and has largely replaced the use of surgery for stone removal in humans.
At Columbia River Veterinary Specialists, we use a Convergent Ho:YAG laser to perform laser lithotripsy.

Dr. Travis Lanaux is originally from Southern Louisiana. He attended the University of New Orleans for his undergraduate studies and his interest in veterinary medicine brought him to Louisiana State University, School of Veterinary Medicine, where he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Lanaux had a keen interest in pursuing specialty training and completed a small animal internship at Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. During his internship, he developed a passion for emergency medicine and care of the critically ill. Dr. Lanaux continuted his specialty training at Tufts and has recently completed his residency in Emergency and Critical Care. Dr Lanaux received the distinguished Jules and Lucy Silver Animal Bedside Manner Award for demonstrating outstanding care, concern, and well-being of both patients and clients during the period of his residency. He has now joined our team at CRVS and is continuing his pursuit of the highest quality medicine and compassionate veterinary care.

Dr. Sarah Naidoo was born and raised in Montreal, Canada, and earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Montreal in 2000. Her passion for solving complex medical mysteries led her to pursue additional training in internal medicine. After a one-year internship in Southern California, she completed a small animal internal medicine residency at the University of Prince Edward Island, Canada, and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) in 2004. She has been practicing in Oregon for the last five years. As an internal medicine specialist, she has the tools and the training to diagnose and treat a variety of complex illnesses, including hormonal conditions, kidney and liver disease, autoimmune conditions, and cancer. Dr. Naidoo joins Dr. Josh Elliot as part of our internal medicine department.
